Level Up: outsourced HR that's actually in your business

You're running a sizeable organisation and HR has outgrown the occasional phone call. There are multiple managers, situations that aren't straightforward, and a culture worth protecting as you grow. Level Up puts me in your business on a regular basis, so the advice you get is built on how your people actually work rather than on theory.

Agreed time on site every month

We set the hours upfront and use them where they're needed most, whether that's alongside managers, in formal meetings, or simply being visible to your team.

In the room for the hard ones

Disciplinaries, grievances and restructures handled face to face rather than over the phone. It changes how those conversations go and how they land.

Advice that isn't generic

Because I'm in the business regularly, I know your people and your culture. You get an answer built on your situation, not one that could apply to anybody.

HR has outgrown the phone call

There's a point where advice at arm's length stops being enough. You've got multiple managers who all need support. The situations arriving on your desk are layered rather than simple, often involving several people and a history that goes back months. And you've built a culture that's worth something, which means you've now got something to lose if the people side of the business gets handled badly.

At this size the problem isn't usually knowing what the law says. It's that good HR decisions depend on context, and context is exactly what a consultant who's never met your team doesn't have.

Level Up solves that by putting me in the building often enough to actually know the place.

What we do together

Everything in Step Up carries over, so all the frameworks and manager support stay in place. On top of that, I'm physically in your business on a regular basis.

We agree a set amount of on-site time each month and I use it where it's needed most. Some months that's working alongside managers on things they're finding difficult. Some months it's supporting formal meetings, or handling employee relations issues face to face. Some months it's simply being there and visible, so your team know HR is a real person they can talk to rather than a policy document.

For the complicated situations, the disciplinaries, the grievances, the restructures, I'm with you in the room. That makes a genuine difference to how those situations are handled and how the people involved experience them.

What you end up with

Everything from Step Up, plus agreed monthly on-site time used where your business needs it. Face-to-face support for the sensitive situations, including disciplinaries, grievances and restructures. A consistent HR presence across your managers and departments, so nothing falls between the gaps. And people planning that looks ahead rather than reacting, which matters more the faster you're growing.

What's different once it's in place

HR stops sitting in the background and becomes something the business can feel. Your leaders make better decisions because they've got proper support behind them. Difficult situations get handled well because somebody experienced is in the room while they happen rather than being briefed afterwards.

Your people know HR is real, reachable and fair. And as the business keeps growing, you're not carrying a quiet worry about whether the people side of it is holding up.

£600 a month plus VAT.

Level Up is a flat monthly fee rather than a "from" price, because the amount of on-site time is agreed at the start and doesn't move around. Your first month is higher if I'm drafting or reviewing your contracts and handbook as part of coming on board. After that it's rolling monthly with 30 days' notice on either side, the same as every other package.

Working across the North East.

I work with businesses across the North East: Darlington, Durham, Bishop Auckland, Stockton-on-Tees, Newcastle and the surrounding areas. For the right client I'll travel further. For businesses that work remotely, I can do that too. If you're within an hour of Barnard Castle, I can be with you in person when it counts.

Common questions about Level Up

How much on-site time do I get?
We agree it at the start based on your headcount and what you're dealing with, and it's fixed for the month so you know exactly what you're getting. If a month turns out to be unusually heavy we'll talk about it rather than me quietly running over or quietly holding back.
What if I don't use the time one month?
There's almost always something worth doing with it, and if there genuinely isn't I'd rather spend it on things that pay off later: reviewing where your policies are drifting, sitting down with a manager who's finding something hard, planning for whatever's coming. Unused time isn't banked and rolled forward, and I'd say so at the point we set it up.
Do you work with our existing managers or replace them?
Work with them. Level Up isn't me taking people management off your managers, it's me making sure they've got support when they need it and that I'm in the room for the situations where experience matters most.
Is this like having an in-house HR manager?
For most businesses at this size it does the same job for a fraction of the cost, without the recruitment, the salary, the on-costs or the risk of them leaving. The difference is that I'm not there five days a week. For a business that genuinely needs someone full time I'd tell you that.
How big does my business need to be?
It's less about headcount than about complexity. I've seen 25-person businesses that need Level Up and 60-person businesses where Step Up is plenty. If you've got multiple management layers and situations that keep turning out to be complicated, it's worth a conversation.
Am I tied in?
No. Rolling monthly with 30 days' notice on either side, exactly the same as the other packages. Nothing about being the top tier changes that.
