What happens after you get in touch

I'll come back to you and we'll arrange a proper conversation, either on the phone or face to face if you'd rather. It usually takes about an hour.

In that hour I'll ask about your business, how many people you employ, what you've already got in place, and what's prompted you to get in touch now. Then I'll tell you what I'd do and roughly what it would cost. If what you need is a one-off piece of work I'll quote you a fixed fee. If ongoing support makes more sense, I'll tell you which package fits and why.

After that you go away and think about it. There's no follow-up sequence and nobody chasing you. If you want to go ahead, the paperwork is signed digitally and most clients are up and running within a week.

It takes less of your time than you think

The most common reason people put this off is that they're too busy to start. Getting set up takes an hour or two of your time in total. I need to know the size of the business, your headcount, any policies you already have, and how things run day to day: how holidays get booked, how people report sickness, who reports to whom. That's genuinely it. You can take HR off your plate in an afternoon.

I work with businesses across the North East: Darlington, Durham, Bishop Auckland, Stockton-on-Tees, Newcastle and the surrounding areas. For the right client I'll travel further. For businesses that work remotely, I can do that too. If you're within an hour of Barnard Castle, I can be with you in person when it counts.

No. It's free and there's no obligation at the end of it. If it turns out you don't need me, or you need a solicitor rather than an HR consultant, I'll tell you that.
How quickly will you get back to me?
Within one working day, and usually sooner. If you've told me something is urgent I'll prioritise it.
I'm in the middle of something right now. Can you help today?
Ring rather than emailing. If something is live and moving, we should talk rather than write. I'll tell you what to do next and what not to do in the meantime, which is often the more important half.
Do I have to commit to anything to talk to you?
No. Plenty of the conversations I have don't turn into work, and that's fine. You'll leave knowing what your options are either way.
Do you work outside the North East?
Yes, remotely. I prefer to be able to visit in person, which is why my main patch is roughly an hour around Barnard Castle, but I have clients I work with entirely over the phone and video and it works well.
What if I just want a quick opinion?
Ring me. A short conversation about whether you're about to do something expensive costs nothing and saves people a lot more often than you'd think.
